The concept of pushing or pressing piles into the ground is not new. Dawson is aiming at revolutionised this concept of the pressed pile, improving the limitations. These techniques offer solutions where noise and vibration constraints prevent the use of more traditional tools such as vibrators or impact hammers which are typically used to install steel sheet pile walls.
Systems being offered by Dawson are primarily installed with the use of rig-mounted pressing equipment, aptly named ‘Push/Pull’ equipment. The rig provides the initial down-crowd force, which significantly increases productivity - it negates the use of the reaction frame typically required with established technology. The rig offers formidable hydraulic power to the Push/Pull ensuring maximum pressing force and installation speed is achieved. Combining these benefits with controlled handling and pile guidance enables the rig to significantly out perform established pile presses.
The Push/Pull design allows key elements to be reconfigured to suit specific piling applications. Powerful ‘taper wedge’ clamp assemblies grasp the top of each pile whilst 200 tonne hydraulic cylinders either push or pull to press the pile into the ground or develop reaction. Sheet pile walls can be installed using either two or four cylinder Push/Pull configurations.
This Push- Pull System offers numerous benefits:
• Quiet, vibration-less, with no soil removal to landfill
• No ground heave, piles are removable and recyclable
• Fast rate of driving for high productivity
• Factory quality material with low mass/volume material transport costs
• Measured load capacity and can be loaded immediately
• Cost effective and quick method of construction
• Variety of sheet piles sections can be used (and H piles)
• Larger capacity piles can be constructed using more interlocking piles
