One of the charities Pilequip has chosen to support is The Children's Hospital Westmead, and in particular the Grace Centre For Newborn Care Unit attached to the hospital.
One of Pilequip's directors Brett Camm, is challenging himself to get fit for a physical challenge (completing a Half Ironman : 1.9km swim; 90.1km cycle; and 21.1km run) ALL to raise money for the purchase of Specialised Intensive Care Humidicribs for "The Grace Centre for Newborn Care" at Children's Hospital, Westmead (Sydney).
Babies can be born with many serious health and medical complications. These days many of these complications can be treated and overcome through specialised medical care .... provided the equipment is available. These particular humidicribs provide a controlled environment for these small and delicate babies (much like conventional humidicribs), yet they allow full access for Specialists to complete surgery etc (see attachment). Also by keeping the babies in the same crib, you eliminate the potential for infections etc associated with transferring these little babies from one bed to another, as they receive operation after operation etc. The staff at The Grace Centre for Newbore Care do an amazing work with the sickest babies, many of which are from regional areas of NSW. It truly is an inspiring place to visit.

Specialised Intensive Care Humidicrib – Giraffes
This crib offers us the greater flexibility to nurse smaller babies in a controlled environment but it also offers us the ability to gain better access to the sicker babies than conventional humidicribs, while still providing the heat source that is essential to their care.

Brett is raising money for the purchase of at least one of these cribs. As you can imagine, the level of technology and sophistication in this equipment comes at a price (approximately A$98,000 each).
Expenditure like this is almost always outside of hospital budgets, and the Special Care wards rely on fund-raising and giving to purchase this life saving equipment. Without it though - precious little babies - with curable health complications can die. Our hope is that Brett & Pilequip can raise enough money to fully finance one of these humidicribs, and in doing so, provide equipment that allows Specialists to do what they do to save babies lives.
Please note that giving over $2.00 in Australia is tax deductible, and a tax deductible receipt is provided to you.
Please also note that Brett is getting fit and completing the Port Macquarie 70.3 Half Iron Man, being held on 01 May 2011, as his physical challenge for this fund-raising. Brett is open to people challenging him to achieve certain "time goals" in return for increased levels of giving. "It's ALL for the babies".
Fund-raising will continue through until the event on 01 May 2011, and we hope that you can respond with generosity, and see the provision of this valuable Life Saving equipment.
Pilequip thanks you for your support...
