News - John Holland continues relationship with JUNTTAN and Pilequip for Cape Lambert Port B Iron Ore Expansion. Print this page

John Holland was recently awarded the piling works package on Rio Tinto's Cape Lambert Port B Iron Ore Expansion Project.  The project involves driving approximately 300 steel tube piles as partAPCTX50_-_3_Rigs_PilingSMALL of the wharf and jetty structures.  The steel tube piles vary in size from 1200mm OD to 1700mm OD, with a 25mm wall thicknesses, 40mm thick driving shoes and lengths up to 50m.  To achieve the required pile penetration depth into the foundation strata, and to prove the specified load carrying capacity, hydraulic hammers were specified for the project with an energy requirement of 440kN.m.

John Holland, who has been using Junttan hammers on coastal resources infrastructure projects since 1993, again engaged Pilequip to assist in specifying and delivering the optimum piling hammers for this project.  John Holland will in fact use 2 x Junttan HHK 28S (450kN.m) hammers and 2 x Junttan HHK 25S (400kN.m) hammers to complete the piling work on this key project.

John Holland's recent history and relationship with Pilequip and Junttan on coastal resources infrastructure projects includes:

  • 2002 - Naval Base, WA : 1 x Junttan HHK 14A (165kN.m);
  • 2006 - Dampier Port Upgrade, WA : 1 x HHK 18/20S (294kN.m) and 1 x HHK 16S (235kN.m);
  • 2006 - R G Tanna Wharf, Gladstone, QLD : 1 x HHK 14A (165kN.m) and 1 x HHK 9A (106kN.m);
  • 2007 - Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal 7X, QLD : 1 x HHK 18A (212kN.m); 2 x HHK 14/16S (235kN.m); 1 x HHK 10/12/14S (206kN.m); and 2 x HHK 14A (165kN.m);
  • 2008 - Abbot Point Coal Terminal 50X, QLD : 3 x HHK 14/16S (235kN.m) and 1 x HHK 10/12/14S (206kN.m);
  • 2010 - Cape Lambert Port B, WA : 2 x HHK 25/28S (450kN.m) and 2 x HHK 25S (400kN.m).

Pilequip continues to work with John Holland on these key projects, providing complete sales, rentals, servicing, training, commissioning, after sales support, spare parts and technical support throughout the life of the project to ensure John Holland meets or exceeds its project goals.  We wish John Holland every success on this Cape Lambert Port B project.
