BAUER CSM Wall Takes Off in NZ

Early September saw the commissioning of a brand new RTG RG19T telescopic piling rig fitted with a Bauer BCM5 Cutter Soil Mixer.  Within a week of arriving in the Country, work commenced on the construction of a retaining wall at a site in downtown Auckland, NZ.

Civil Works Limited, having established themselves as a successful piling contractor in New Zealand and the Pacific, purchased the equipment to offer an efficient and economic alternative to the traditional solutions of sheet piling and/or contiguous pile walls.  This is the first Bauer rig to be brought into New Zealand.  Along with their new MAT automatic batching and pumping unit, this will enable them to provide solutions to clients with projects previously considered prohibitive.

The Cutter Soil Mixing (CSM) system is an innovation in soil mixing for creating cut-off and retaining walls offering a number of distinct advantages:

• Extremely accurate with inbuilt directional sensors and steering mechanisms,

• Minimal spoil generation, using the existing soil as a component of the finished wall,

• Very little to no vibration thus allowing wall construction right on the boundary - with adjacent structures,

• Powerful cutters able to cut and form a wall in anything from soft sands to coarse gravels as well as through very stiff clay layers,

• Wall thicknesses of 550, 800 & 1050mm with simple addition of cutting wheels.

• Easy installation of beam reinforcement,

• High productivity,

Depth, inclination, mixing tool speed, grout volumes and pressures are all displayed on the dedicated monitor in the cabin for immediate adjustment as required by the operator and saved and printable for a comprehensive quality record for each panel produced.
